Responsible gambling
Deciding a budget before the first deposit
Set the amount you are prepared to lose before you open the cashier, not after a losing run. Treat it the way you treat a concert ticket: money spent on an evening out, gone whatever happens. Every casino in our ranking lets you fix a deposit limit, a loss limit and a session timer from the account settings, and those tools work best when you switch them on while you are calm rather than while you are chasing. Play is 18+ only.
When a session stops feeling like entertainment
Borrowing to play, hiding the size of a deposit from a partner, going back to recover a loss the same night, or feeling relief rather than enjoyment when a spin lands are all signals worth acting on. So is thinking about the next session during work. None of these mean the situation is beyond help; they mean it is time to use the limits, take a break of a few weeks, or talk to someone outside the situation.
Free and confidential support services in NZ
The Gambling Helpline NZ answers on 0800 654 655, day or night, and costs nothing. Text 8006 if a call is difficult. The Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand offers free counselling in person and online, including support for family members rather than only the person playing. Every casino here also runs self-exclusion, which locks an account for a period you choose and cannot be reversed early.
